In February SWT had a presence at Linlithgow’s Seed Potato Day. Burgh Beautiful and Transition Linlithgow are promoting the use of peat-free compost and calling on gardens to help protect the environment. From June TL will have a bed in the centre of the town ‘Protecting our Peatlands’. Do visit the town and see its excellent hanging baskets, all with peat-free compost, and its many colourful and creative barrels and beds. Burgh Beautiful has taken on all of West Lothian Council planters and beds and is always looking for more volunteers to help add to the wildlife aspects of this historic town.Averil Stewart
Froglife, are hosting a free training evening for local people to gain experience in looking for amphibians at ponds. The training is for beginners and beyond and would be useful for families, amateur naturalists, unemployed people looking for new skills or gardeners who would like to know more about wildlife.
Fancy taking part in a Bioblitz?
Science and Advice for Scottish Agriculture is situated on farmland just outside Edinburgh near Ingliston and they’re looking for your help! They’re hoping to carry out a Bioblitz (or an intensive survey over the course of the day to record all forms of biodiversity they can manage e.g. insects, birds, plants, fungi) one weekend in late August or early September. Expert and amateur volunteers are welcome to help build a picture of the biodiversity present on the site. If you’d like to take part or want more information please email Karen.email@example.com
