£472.96 was collected on Friday 18 September at Tesco Dalkeith. Great to have two new volunteers on board, Jenny and Mike who found it enjoyable and worthwhile and will volunteer again. If you would like to join the team and help in 2016 please contact Averil.

Two days 26/27 June raised the goodly sum of £909.64 at Sainsbury’s Cameron Toll. This will help buy brush-cutting equipment for the management of reserves. Funds will be needed to support the lecture programme and other activities in 2016 so more volunteers are sought. A 2-hour stint in a superstore near you need not be too onerous so please let Averil know if you would like to join the willing band of SWT enthusiasts. Perhaps more important is the search for someone to work alongside Averil over the next year, prior to her retiring in her mid-seventies! This too need not be too onerous. If interested in knowing more, please give her a ring: 01506 842676

Fund-raising through can collections since April 2015 has brought in the following:
2015-16 | 24 Apr 15 | Sainsbury | Meadowbank | £360.96
25 Apr 15 | £357.87 | £718.83

9 May 15 | £395.12 | £803.93 |
Many thanks to volunteers who participate in the 2-hour stints. And to customers who increasingly give generously. Contrary to belief, only 1% of collections are made up of coppers. Our presence in supermarkets is also a good way of raising awareness of the work of the Scottish Wildlife Trust and often saying ‘Hello’ to members.
EVENTS:
Our next collections are as follows:
29th & 30th May, Tesco Bathgate
26th & 27th June, Sainsbury Cameron Toll
VOLUNTEERS are needed so if you are willing to do a slot of 2-hours in a venue near you please contact Averil Stewart 01506 842676. It can be quite fun being on duty with another like-minded enthusiast for Scotland Wildlife. The money is critical to the management of our local wildlife reserves and to subsidising the lecture programme plus making a contribution to SWT HQ.

Sunday 31st May 12 noon to 5pm
The Scottish Wildlife Trust will welcome the public to its Red Moss Wildlife Reserve near Balerno in Edinburgh on Sunday 31st May, giving visitors the chance to explore one of the most endangered wildlife habitats in the Scottish countryside. Guided tours will be one of the many free activities that will be on offer throughout the day. This will give people a chance to engage with Scottish wildlife at a rare peatland area.
As a raised bog, Red Moss is one of the few remaining peatlands in Scotland. They are extremely rare wildlife habitats, home to many species that can only live in such environments.
With experts on hand, the Red Moss Open Day is set to reveal secrets behind this special place, with a whole host of activities on offer during this free afternoon. From pond-dipping to a wildlife quiz, visitors will be able to find out more about the plants and animals living there. The reserve is situated just one mile south of Balerno on the north side of the Pentland Hills, 9 miles south-west of Edinburgh and about 1 mile south of Balerno. Car parking is available in Threipmuir Car Park adjacent to Red Moss of Balerno Wildlife Reserve (grid reference OS Landranger, Map 65. NT 164 637). Red Moss Wildlife Reserve Open Day is on Sunday 31st May from 12 noon to 5.00 pm. It is free admission but voluntary contributions are welcomed. It is advised that visitors wear appropriate clothing and be prepared for the weather
I am delighted to report that we raised £959.47 on Saturday 6 September:
£458.28 at Tesco Linlithgow and £501.19 at Tesco Colinton. Many thanks to those volunteers who helped and especially those who did two stints since we had two locations to cover.
Again with many thanks
Averil

Well done to all our volunteers. Since June we have raised £2,526.34 in can collections. Very many thanks for your all your help in this.
This will help not only with wildlife reserves such as at Bawsinch, Duddingston and Red Moss, Balerno but also in the wider countryside.
